Low-T stands for Low Testosterone.  This is the Hormone that makes a man a man, and itresponsible for several important functions in the body.  It is fabricated in the Testicles.  We find this mostly in men, and though we have a tendency to believe that this happens only to older men, we have seen younger people in their mid-twenties with this Low-T situation.  The symptoms are multiple and may include some of the following:

  • Impotence
  • Lack of Libido
  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain
  • Loss of clear thinking
  • Elevated cholesterol

We measure the Testosterone level with a simple inexpensive blood test.

Though the treatment is simple - replace the Hormone - once the Testicles do not produce enough Testosterone, it does not come back to a normal production and we have to replace the Hormone all the time.  This is done in 2 main ways:

  1. A Gel or Cream that is applied daily.  Though this is expensive, most insurance plan will pay for this.  It is very effective in bringing the Testosterone level up.  We usually do another measurement a few weeks after the treatment is started and then every few months.
  2. A Testosterone injection can be given at regular intervals.  The interval varies from one patient to the other, it can be from 2 to 4 weeks, and this is determined by measuring the Testosterone level until we achieve the results we want.  This is less expensive then the topical applications, but it has the disadvantage that you have to come back to the clinic for an injection on a regular basis.
